DUM TAK... TAK ... DUM TAK
"Dum Tak Music" began in my living room — watching my children experience music.
When orchestral music begins, there is often a moment — just seconds in — when we, including my children, become fully present; attention sharpens. It is a moment where music starts to happen within us and amongst us; music is powerful. It is communication, learning, and emotional regulation, Music is connection.
Dum Tak Music Inc. is an organization dedicated to expanding access to orchestral and cultural music for our community, kids and families.
Listening First
Music begins with listening. DumTak encourages deep attention to sound, rhythm, and silence as a foundation for curiosity, learning, and connection.
Music Up Close
Live music is most powerful when experienced closely. DumTak creates intimate encounters where participants can sit near musicians, observe instruments, and feel rhythm in real time.
Hands-On Rhythm
Music is meant to be experienced, not only observed. DumTak programs invite participants to clap, move, respond, and explore rhythm together.
Music in Everyday Spaces
Music belongs everywhere—not only on concert stages. DumTak brings live music into classrooms, libraries, healthcare environments, and community spaces where people naturally gather.
Dum Tak is designed as a scalable, community-embedded framework rather than a series of isolated performances. We partner with childcare providers, schools, libraries, cultural institutions, and healthcare environments across Massachusetts to bring hands-on rhythm and live music experiences directly into everyday spaces where families and children gather.
Founder Story
Hi, I am a mom of two who has experienced both the limitations of access to music education and performances and the magic that music and creativity it brings to my children. I have experienced music happening within us- it is a symphony of emotions. Those moments remind me how deeply art moves us, teaches us, and connects us.
So here I am, following what feels like a calling — working to break through those limitations. Because music and art are not luxuries. They are essential tools gifted to us to help us grow, express ourselves, and connect with one another.
